Jurong Country Club

9 Science Centre Road S(609078)

In 1975 Jurong Country Club (JCC) was born. This green lung was bordered by Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim, Jurong Town Hall Road, and the placid Jurong Lake. When membership opened, JCC comprised a modest clubhouse, two tennis courts, and a nine-hole course designed by a Briton called Frank Pennick. The initial developmental cost: between $3.5 to $4 million, a considerable amount then.

In the ten years that followed, another $8 million was spent furnishing the club with its second nine holes, swimming pools, squash courts, restaurants, function rooms, more tennis courts, a gym, a jackpot room, and a billiards room.

Between 1992 to 1994, the Club underwent extensive renovation to the tune of $50 million, both to the Clubhouse and the golf course. Today, one can, from the Jurong East MRT station platform, get a good view of the impressive facade of the Clubhouse.

The Club enjoyed many firsts: it was the first golf club to have a two-tiered sheltered driving range, the first to have a fully-lighted 18-hole golf course, and a five -hole executive golf course and a driving range and a Golfers' Assistant system of servicing golfers on the course both day and night.
